Session details

  • 2.5 hours + 15 minute question period • Offered Tuesday, July 19 from 12:00 pm-2:45 pm ET and Thursday, July 21 from 4:00 pm-6:45 pm ET

Whether it’s at work, at home, or with friends and family, we understand that difficult conversations come up all the time. In a culture where deeply-entrenched and polarizing views have become the norm, how do we have those tough conversations with folks we care about and how can we work to build bridges across our differences? In this session, you will learn why having these conversations is so hard, why cutting people out of your life isn’t the answer, why it’s important to honour the grey areas and reject binary thinking, and how to assert your position and your boundaries while still leaning into empathy and compassion.

  • 2 hours +30 minute question period • Offered Tuesday, July 26 from 12:00 pm-2:30 pm ET and Thursday, July 28th from 4:00 pm-6:30 pm ET

This is a workshop designed for folks to deepen their understanding of anti-Black racism, how it manifests and how to identify it within behaviours and systems. We will explore the roots of racism and learn the behaviours of being an anti-racist. Participants will learn to identify anti-Black racism on an individual and systemic level by building an awareness of how racism manifests in our language, culture, and institutional systems (workplaces, education, and policies). Participants will learn how to navigate conversations around concepts of “niceness”, “whiteness”, and white privilege. This workshop provides participants with the skills to understand and recognize acts of anti-Black racism such as tokenism, appropriation, and microaggressions.

  • 2 hours + 30 minute question period • Offered Tuesday, August 2 from 12:00 pm-2:30 pm ET and Thursday, August 4 from 4:00 pm-6:30 pm ET

This 2-hour workshop is designed to answer any and all questions you may have about gender and sexual diversity. In this session, we break down the ABCs of the 2SLGBTQIA+ acronym, dive into the practice of sharing pronouns, and explore the various systems of oppression that impact queer and trans folks at work and beyond. We unpack common microaggressions, discuss the importance of representation in media, and look to solutions for a more affirming and equitable future for all. Participants will leave with actionable takeaways to better support gender and sexually diverse folks in the workplace, at home, and in our communities.

  • 2 hours + 30 minute question period • Offered Monday, August 8 from 12:00 pm-2:30 pm and Tuesday, August 9 from 4:00 pm-6:30 pm ET

This workshop provides folks with the tools to discuss the how and why surrounding the unique experiences of women of colour in the workplace. In this session, participants will have the opportunity to reflect on the systems of oppression that shape the disenfranchising experiences women of colour have at work as it relates to sexism, patriarchy, and racism. Here we unpack the compounding ways in which women of colour are confronted with institutional, cultural, and interpersonal acts of discrimination. We address the lack of intersectionality in the Suffrage Movement and how it relates to the current landscape for social justice, equity, and inclusion between women of colour and white women today. Together we will identify the barriers well-intentioned allies face when acting in solidarity with women of colour and find better ways to name and frame racism.
